High Desert Farms: Canning and packaging Since 1979

A place to find some of our Mom's or Grandma's favorite home canning recipes. We (Dave & Patty) have always enjoyed good food and were fortunate to have Mothers (Helen & Lorraine) who liked to preserve their garden vegetables into delectable recipes. Using their expertise we decided to carry on the tradition.

In 1979 we started brainstorming with just a few recipes like salsa, hot sauce, pasta and bar-b-que sauce. Since then we have created over 300 unique recipes, home-style tasty treats for your enjoyment. Using the best fruits & vegetables and balancing the right spices with the other ingredients we're sure to have something that pleases your palate.

In 1990 we discovered the orange habanero chili pepper and the red savina habanero powder.

I love these habaneros. They can be extremely hot… or slightly hot… depending on the quantity used…but they are always flavorful. This habanero pepper traditionally has flavors of coconut and papaya with a hint of berry and a fiery acidic heat. We have chosen the red savina habenero chili powder for their tropical fruit flavors, particularly those of mango and papaya. This pepper is mainly used in sauces, but it has grown in popularity and is now found in all kinds of cooking. The powdered form is the easiest way to heat up your buffalo wings. What makes the bright orange habanero hot is the capsaicin in the pepper. If you remove some of the capsaicin, that’s the white part on the inside of the pepper, you will remove the hottest part with the most capsaicin.

Most habaneros rate 200,000 to 300,000 scoville heat units.

Warning - do not slice or handle fresh habanero peppers with your bare hands!! "Wear Gloves"
